Three recent obesity studies caught my attention for three very different reasons: One looked at a rare vision complication reported with GLP-1 medications. One asked whether semaglutide’s cardiovascular benefits differed in people who were already frail. And one followed people with obesity and prediabetes for three years to see what happened to both weight and progression to type 2 diabetes. What I like about putting these studies together is that they show how much bigger obesity medicine is than “how much weight did someone lose?” We’re studying long-term health outcomes, uncommon safety signals, different patient populations, and whether treatment can change the trajectory of obesity-related disease. And, as always, the details matter: an observational association is not the same thing as causation, a post-hoc analysis has limitations, and results from a specific clinical-trial population shouldn’t automatically be generalized to everyone.
