The anime is so good. People hate on it for all the fan service and things like that, but can't see past it to witness the plot. Rudeus is the human incarnation of our sin, the imperfection of all of us, and how we, through all the problems and hurdles we endure, none of us can change who we really are.

Anyone who says the fan service ruined Mushoku Tensei is genuinely missing the point. Rudeus was reborn with his memories, yes, but he was still growing mentally and emotionally. The way he behaves early on is a direct reflection of the life he lived before: a complete shut-in who had zero grasp of what was and wasn’t socially acceptable. deliberate character work that helped us understand him more and see ourselves in him, showing how he’s still flawed and scared. There’s even a moment where he pulls advice from a dating game to figure out how to handle a real situation, that one line alone tells you everything about where his head is at. The fan service isn’t there to be edgy, it’s showing you exactly the kind of person he is and where he’s starting from. If you can look past the surface and actually follow his growth throughout the series, it hits way harder than most people give it credit for.
