Unfortunately, the NCC, which we had, took a resolution that the CRL must push in whatever way possible, even if it means going to court to force Parliament to pass legislation that's going to protect people. This circus can't go on forever.” Why This is Dangerous 1. Presumption of Guilt Mkhwanazi-Xaluva openly branded religious leaders as abusers. Instead of dealing with individual cases of wrongdoing, she casts suspicion over all pastors and church leaders. 2. Threat to Democracy She declared that the CRL will “push in whatever way possible, even if it means going to court to force Parliament.” This is a direct assault on our parliamentary democracy. Chapter 9 institutions were created to defend rights, not to coerce Parliament. 3. Language of Hostility Referring to the state of religion as a “circus”, she insults millions of South Africans who worship peacefully and lawfully, and she disrespects the faith community she is meant to protect. SACD’s Position We reject the blanket labeling of pastors as “abusers.” South Africa already has laws to prosecute abuse — new anti-church legislation is unnecessary and unconstitutional. We reject the attempt to use courts to force Parliament into licensing pastors or regulating churches. This undermines the Constitution and the separation of powers. Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva has repeatedly shown hostility toward Christianity. Instead of protecting religious rights, she is spearheading their erosion. Our Call The South African Church Defenders (SACD) declares: Parliament must reject any CRL-driven legislation that licenses or controls the Church. Christians must unite to defend the constitutional right to worship freely. The CRL must stop vilifying the Body of Christ and return to its constitutional mandate. ✝️ For Christ. For Freedom.
