Wanted the Musical: I so wanted to like this show, and I’m so happy to say that I did. And yes, I want you to see it, too. It's 1893. Two light-skinned Black sisters, Mary and Martha Clarke, pass themselves off as white women and become outlaws. The sisters turn to a life of crime to settle their mother's unjust sharecropping debt and save her home. Think Jesse James meets Robin Hood. Boom! 💥 Now that’s a story! And here's the kicker: The show's book writer and lyricist, Angelica Chéri, is actually a descendant of these real life sisters, her great-great-aunts! First, the cast! Good Lord, the talent on that stage is cray cray. From top to bottom, these performers have voices that could blow the roof clean off the theater. How they manage to belt their faces off eight shows a week is beyond me. Brava! And let's talk about Sissy (Aurelia Williams) and Flo (Katie Thompson)...these two absolutely stole the show for me. Playing the maids, they deliver some much-needed comedic relief with impeccable timing. Every entrance, every reaction, every perfectly placed punchline was a delight. Now, as much as I enjoyed myself, I do have some critiques: The first act felt a bit disjointed. Despite the fascinating premise and phenomenal performances, I struggled to connect emotionally with the characters. I was watching their story unfold, but I wasn't necessarily rooting for anyone. And for a story with stakes this high, I wanted to feel that investment much sooner. Then there's the score. Beautifully sung? Absolutely. Some powerhouse musical moments? Without question. Luke James, as Elijah, delivers one particularly spectacular number that deserves its own round of applause. But those melodic hooks I crave? They weren't quite there for me. Somewhere around the middle of Act Two, the emotional connection arrived. I started caring about these characters, rooting for them, and becoming genuinely invested in their journey. And just like that, the show had me! Was it a perfect musical? No. Did it take a little longer than I'd have liked to win me over? Absolutely. But when it finally did, it reminded me why I love theater in the first place. Wanted has an extraordinary story to tell, a fiercely talented cast, humor, heart, and a piece of Black American history that deserves to be seen and heard. And the fact that this story is being told by someone whose own family lived it? That alone makes it something special. Put this one on your must see list. It's WANTED for a reason! FDT HARD 💙 #fyp #broadway #wantedmusical #wanted #nyctheatre
