Do NOT go to Old Town or Little Italy or any other touristy place. Go to a Mexican area like Barrio Logan or Golden Hill (both adjacent to downtown). Make sure it’s really small and has like five tables (takeout will be available). Drive thru is not that great it’s for post-party.

Old town has fun vibes but the food is notttt good - the little hole in the wall taco shops are the best!! Just depends on what neighborhood you’re in

Not a drive through but if you drive north to Encinitas (in San Diego county) theres a little hole in a wall restaurant called La Especial (on the 101)…have their Mexico City style chicken soup and chips & salsa…and a Mexican Coca Cola.

SD local 👋 Tony’s Jacal in Solana Beach - family run, been there for ages. There’s also Fidel’s next door. Oscar’s in Pacific Beach or Hillcrest - amazing ceviche. Las Olas in Cardiff if you want more of a beach vibe. Suuuuper authentic spots in Barrio Logan. Lola 55 in East Village for affordable upscale tacos. Buenas Suerte!
