🪰 Citrus Fruit Fly – Pheromone Trap Guide ✅ Purpose To monitor and control the male fruit fly population by attracting them with sex pheromones, reducing their mating and overall population. 🔧 Materials Required For a Methyl Eugenol Trap (for male Bactrocera dorsalis): 1. Trap container: • Plastic bottle (1–2 liter size) with small entry holes (1–2 cm diameter). 2. Cotton wick or absorbent pad 3. Methyl eugenol (male fruit fly attractant) 4. Insecticide (e.g., malathion or dichlorvos, for killing) 5. String or wire (for hanging) 🛠️ How to Make the Trap 1. Make entry holes on the sides of the plastic bottle (2–3 holes). 2. Soak a cotton wick in a solution of: • 4–5 ml methyl eugenol • 1–2 ml malathion (or 1 tablet dichlorvos) 3. Place the soaked wick inside the bottle and hang it by a string. 4. Seal the bottle or cover the top with a lid to protect it from rain. 5.
