I agree with this autonomy principle and see it happens when negotiating much, much bigger transactions as well as small. When writing client tenders or proposals we incorporate a certain amount of flexibility that give a client the option to lose certain things so they feel they’re getting one up on us, even if it makes no material difference to us.
