In the story of Cinderella, people tend to take the word “ugly” literally. I grew up with the more tame brother’s Grimm version of Cinderella where the sister’s beauty was comparable or even surpassing Cinderella’s own beauty. It was just their cruel and heartless nature that made them “ugly”.

The "ugly stepsister" doesn't mean their physical appearance is ugly, it's their character, behavior, personality, how they treat people is what makes them ugly. You could meet the most beautiful person in the world but if there character is ugly they also become ugly.

I think half the point of the movie is that really, she wasn’t ugly, she was just controlled and had her mind fed by people who are ugly (on the inside) and thought she was too. Her styling, character, etc are all low confidence in her looks and it shows

I get it, because for us, in our standard she is beautiful. but in their society the beauty standard is different and they have this need to still follow it. similar to how we are now, we may have different types of beauty but many still follow the "standards" set by society.

I think she's drizella (or drisella) because Anastasia was open to rebel against lady tremaine. Also Alma has more of a red hair, Elvira has more of a darker hair. Plus the dress colors and Anastasia has a voice meanwhile her sister will speak but she will just mostly follow her mother

I don’t think it’s that she’s physically ugly because the stepsisters in every version went ugly it’s more about how they act towards Cinderella and their personality that makes ugly they’re kind of a camparison for the viewer to compare them to Cinderella
