It feels like this is skewing data, it goes without saying if you have a good therapeutic relationship it's going to create better outcomes than bad therapeutic relationships. You'd have to control for therapeutic relationship and modality to compare efficacy. I don't think all modalities are made equal from personal experience many wonderful therapists helped me become an expert level self aware intellectualizer, which actually kept me in trauma rather than processing what was below the level of thought. They were nice, we connected, they helped me cope but in the long term all those reframes framed me into a box of suppressed trauma that eventually all came spilling out and on a long painful path to find the right modality.

I keep seeing all this CBT slander and that’s worked for the population I’m working with for years.

YUP! I remind myself of this when sessions don’t seem “productive”. If nothing else, it models a healthy relationship

Looking back at all my therapeutic relationships, I never remembered any specific interventions or exercises. But I do remember the bond and how they made space for my emotional experience.

Facts. Had a therapist for 1 year. Not much progress. Different therapist with a great client/therapist relationship with excellent boundaries and the progress has been amazing.

Therapeutic relationship is necessary but not sufficient. If I have a GREAT therapeutic alliance and use E/RP for PTSD, the patient's outcomes will be trash.

It's almost like we've known this for yearssssssss! That's why I don't get caught up in worrying about the newest popular intervention. Especially when training new therapists: get the relationship right first, the rest is usually details.

YES!! I have childhood trauma and autism. I'm not seeing a trauma therapist. the one I'm seeing is absolutely awesome. I read up on disregulation and other stuff. the biggest thing is developing a strong relationship and learning to trust.

Thisss. I often tell patients that so many of the💗 modalities just repackage same concepts and you can decide which one you resonate with lol. The human to human connection is where it’s at 💓

I am really attached to my therapist. We meet weekly and she also calls me every Saturday because I struggle on the weekends. She also has recorded guided meditations and books for me to listen to, to help with regulating my emotions. Can you be too attached or close to your therapist? Is this a “bad” thing?

Love this... recently saw another therapist rating different modalities and it felt wrong and harmful. When someone pointed this out, they got super defensive about it.

I was thinking about this the other day. I kinda use a mix of different modalities 😬 but I have a great therapeutic relationship with my clients and I think that’s making the biggest impact to be honest
