@brisbanetimes: Replying to @anaaldridge898 Queensland Premier David Crisafulli responded to the United Nations' criticisms of our state's approach to youth crime, saying he was accountable to Queenslanders, not them. #crisafulli #davidcrisafulli #qldgovernment #unitednations #qldpols
Policies like “Adult Crime, Adult Time” tend to disproportionately punish vulnerable children—many of whom are also victims of violence or neglect. Meanwhile, systemic and lethal male violence against women is still under-policed and under-resourced, despite being far more prevalent and deadly.
If the public and political will directed at youth crime were channeled into early prevention, housing, consent education, support for survivors, and men’s behavior change, the broader societal impact could be profound.

This is a HUGE complex systemic issue. Young offenders aren’t created by weak law, they offend and reoffend because of FDV, poverty, neglect (Child protection CP). Then justice don’t support police recommendations. You have said CP is messed. That filters to them.

Everyone is *accountable for human rights. Going against human rights to gain popularity is really early 1900’s dictator energy 🤦🏼♀️but this is the same man who won’t discuss women’s rights to healthcare so what can we expect.

Fun fact, did you know overall youth offending rates in QLD have actually declined over the past decade but a small group of repeat offenders, access to technology and some high-profile crimes have made it seem like youth crime is out of control.

I'm ashamed to be living in this state dear god.. he's helping nobody with this. this issue isn't weaker laws, it's poorly funded education, high cost of living, poor mental health resources, lack of third spaces, lack of affordable sporting options..this is putting a bandaid on a larger issue

queensland is so clearly a wildly uneducated state by having a problem with the UN. statistics show youth crime has always been a youth problem its never “spiked”. there’s so many more factors at play for youth crime
