Last session our dm threw a fire elemental that almost drowned me from 38 hp in one turn, I had 5 hp left. I thought I was gonna be downed but our sorcerer got really damn lucky on wild magic.

My brother likes to DM semi-serious with a wacky overtone. I balance it out by striving to make my players feel dread, panic, and fear with a more Cosmic Horror/Old Gods kinda feel.

Had my players finally say that combat was too easy and started enemies fight with tactics. Ex: using nets on spellcasters, ranged fighters continuously running back to stay out of melee combat, etc. . . . They love and hate it.
