I did none of this. Literally in under a year I’m at $83.2kUSD currently working as a jr sys admin. started as helpdesk tier 1 no experience outside of fixing iPhones/ laptops/pcs & setting up home networks/small biz network for my non English speaking friends/fam. Used what I know on my own and brushed up on terminology using IT helpdesk YouTube videos. Still have no certs but wrapping up my associates online done while working IT full time in 4 semesters transferring to uni for cyber and I’ll work on sec+ and certs next. Literally a brain some skills hunger to learn and the gift of gab Is all you need oh and God💯

This is good roadmap but you can also bypass paying for certs, learn for free and show your skills with CTFs and personal projects. Certs can get expensive for someone who is starting from zero.

Absolutely correct. Learning firewalls, VTP, mGRE, NHRP, how security is applied to the DMZ and DNS is absolutely essential as a network security engineer AND it’s not difficult at all! The most annoying thing on this list is Linux and configuring the DNS script 😂.

Thank you for this information. Earlier this week, I made the decision to switch careers from accounting into cybersecurity. Really excited about this.

I’m a lawyer, I don’t want to go into it but I want to learn about it so I can eventually work in the legal space around cybersecurity. Do you have any suggestions?

Roughly, how much would the investment be? I’ve been wanting to get into cyber security for years now.

I’m currently a Design Engineer but have no knowledge on cyber but I would love to transition into this type of work, just feels like a waste tho to throw away my degree. Any chance you’d know if my degree could be helpful if I were to go for these certs?
