So what problem I have is feeling like a normal shape tie is too large (I am a very slender gent) but I have a problem getting my knots to look good with my slim ties. Is it a practice makes perfect situation, or should I try a simpler knot?

I tied that same knot when I was in Army Basic training and my commander swore that it was a clip-on until I loosened the knot. He was quite impressed.

I love the symmetrical knots. Half-windsors bug the crap out of me - they always shift the tie to the side & look like they were hastily put together, even when they’re not. I’ve been using a St. Andrews knot for a while, but I think I’ll have to try this one.
