@nickylovesmusic: What happened to all the indie alternative bands #indiemusic #alternativemusic #waxahatchee #foxing #sharonvanetten #hopalong #bigthief #alexg #emmaruthrundle #chelseawolfe #wednesdayband #mjlenderman #musictok #musicopinion
i think the early-mid 00s was a great time for indie. bright eyes, rilo kiley, modest mouse's early 00s stuff, death cab/postal service, the microphones, sufjan stevens

I think it’s just you, Alvvays, Black Country New Road, Boy Genius, Florist, Big Thief spin-offs, plus most of the bands you mention are still making music

I've been into "indie" type music for decades and to me it's always been great, there was never a lull.

It’s been dead since like M83 brother. Honestly the 00s were peak and 2010s were a big drop off very fast as edm took over

i think there's been some good records in the last few years, black midi,squid, fat white family goat girl and horsegirl,protomartyr are still making good records in the 2020's...probably because of my age,I feel the golden era was late 70's through the 80's,most of which never even got a sniff of the mainstream..and only since the internet and social media have enjoyed retrospective attention

Honestly I think this sort of “indie alternative sound” you’re describing is starting to dwindle because it’s been co-opted by mainstream artists to a bigger degree than ever before (Taylor Swift being the biggest example), forcing indie artists to evolve their sound.

Meet me in the Bathroom sheds light on how the height of the 00's indie scene came and went. Also want to see the Pavement documentary......wait for it (they're overrated 😎)

It’s just bands are disappearing especially top 40 and maybe that’s trickling down. It’s all solo acts now. I don’t want to jump to conclusions as to why. Bands are just disappearing.

I got bored of that stuff in the 80s. They revive it a little bit every few years with a refresh but idk if that niche is forward looking. All the innovations became other genres. Was disappointed it didn’t have its own version of cloud rap. Or took forever to develop 3rd rate dance punk. Instead of leading dance genres w songwriting chops like new wave days

I’m with you, I’m not hearing a lot of it these days. There’s a ton of really good music out there it’s just not indy. I think a lot of the audience for that is listening to bands like khruangbin etc.
