surely it can't make much of a difference. The computer doesn't know if the passenger is 5,2 or 6,7. There is a massive weight difference there.

UPS ramp agent here, but not only that, its also to prevent damage to the aircraft and its airframe. iff there's too much weight at the front, more runway length and stopping distance is needed. too much at the back, and you risk something called tail-tipping, where the tail of the aircraft, including the horizontal stabilizers and the rudder could hit the ground. too much on either side, and you could risk wing tipping, which can damage the engines or control surfaces, such as the flaps and slats.

So you should be placed in your seat at the airport rather then paying extra for your seat nowhere does it ask you for your weight when you are purchasing your ticket

ya know what? it might seem inconvenient but I'd rather they figure out the balance of the plane on the ground and get me where I'm going safely. as long as I arrive I'm not gonna sweat the small stuff in the bigger picture of life 😊

once been on a flight from GA where as we were leveling from the climb the plane QUICKLY flipped horizontally and then back. what could cause that to happen? everyone was started; pilots did not explain what happened

Years and years ago, we had a full plane coming out of Dayton, Ohio. We landed in Omaha and all but three of us got off. They moved every one of us to the very front first class. Probably the only time I’ll get to sit there. That plane barely made it off the ground in Dayton. We took off like a rocket with three people on the plane, leaving Omaha.
