All units are understaffed except OR or procedural. EDs cannot move patients out to see and care for patients in a timely fashion

And the nurses could probably tell you this. :-p We know, and we can't do anything about it. Safety MUST be legislated, or companies (even "non-profits") will ALWAYS choose profit over safety.

#1 is true for sure… #2 should be a lack of nurses on floors to get patients out of the ER so they aren’t borders, it’s a patient flow issue! #3 is a system failure… insurance companies should NOT make medical decisions!

Yes, they are but the “characters” that come into the ER take up a lot of time. I could write a book on the drama that goes on in the waiting room area, I’m sure anyone who works in the ER could too.

All units in all hospitals are short staffed and unsafe unless you are in a state like California with state mandated safe staffing ratios.

For the last point, I don’t think it’s failure to refer to a specialist as much as the pt does not actually follow up with the specialist and their problem precipitates bringing them back to an ER

It’s not so much the lack of equipment then it is having to outsource imaging to companies like VRAD, taking it 3-4 HOURS FREQUENTLY for results.

You sound like a medical malpractice attorney who primarily represents plaintiffs. Out of curiosity—how would your perspective in this TikTok change if you were representing defendants instead? (As I understand it, most malpractice lawyers tend to stick to one side or the other.)

Not just ER is understaffed…. The entire hospital is understaffed. Constantly. On purpose. To save a few bucks. So managers and c suites get their bonuses.

The ER is one of the highest areas of burnout in healthcare. We work in a high stress environment with limited resources and little pay. Many only stay for a few months to years before leaving.

I worked in Healthcare (HR) for 15 years, and hospitals have been DELIBERATELY understaffed for the entirety of my tenure. I had to leave the field because my ethics didn’t align with Administration and CEO’s “vision” (aka Profits over People).
