@saraan.net: Doctors who graduated from UK medical schools are set to have priority over specialty training positions in the NHS over international medical graduates (IMGs) - what do you think? #medstudent #medschool #nhs
Agree for once . I know foreign graduates who have applied for gp training and got posts. However, British graduates have been left without training posts.

That is the minimum, UK citizens must have a priority, not only in NHS but in all jobs. Foreigner can only be employed if no UK citizen available

I get it but also sucks for me, I'm a Brit who went to EU study cos I didn't get in and when I graduate I'm gonna come back to UK and do foundation/F2 and complete CREST b4 applying to training. I doubt there's gonna be anything set aside for Britsh citizens even though I'll be at the same kinda career level as UK grads 😔

Will IMGs having 2 years of NHS experience be considered as local graduates?

Conflicted on this. Agree with it as long as not great UK docs don’t get priority over exceptional foreign docs (as a current UKmed student)

What about UK citizens who graduated medical school abroad?

I don’t see any problem with this. Other countries do this all the time, they employ or recruit their own first before giving job to a foreigner

It should be citizenship based, not uni based. A lot of UK students go to the EU for medical school. And prioritising graduates of UK universities while understandable is a bit like “we’re better than you” mentality. The standards are just as high in the EU if not higher. Infact some EU uni graduates are exempt from FY1 and eligible for full GMC registration compared to even UK graduates that get provisional registration and must do FY1

Is there a difference between a UK citizen and a UK graduate?
I know a British citizen, b
that went abroad for medical school..so is British, but also a foreign graduate. Would he get priority?

They should stop taking plab exams then . People put in so much efforts money and time just to end up no where . You go thru so much just to know they wont prioritize you anymore but they are still kind enough to charge you hefty fee in name of exams
