I didn't like The Devils as much as I hoped. I thought the jokes were too repetitive (and same with the plot). Slightly different villain and setting, rinse repeat. It was also very talky. More of a ⭐️⭐️⭐️for me.

I’m currently reading Solenoid by Cartarescu and I’m having a bit of a hard time? The prose is very pretty, but it’s very stream of consciousness from a narrator with a very bleak outlook. On the other hand, the atmosphere and vibes remind me a little of Gormenghast, which I ended up loving, so maybe I just need more time to marinate with this!

I’m loving The Devils, agree there’s not as much time on character but also somehow Abercrombie has gotten more efficient at characterizing in fewer words. Not my favorite book ever but it’s a ton of fun and Abercrombie remains one of the funniest authors IMO

Ooof I’ve always thought book 10 of wheel of time is so bad you can skip it. Jordan himself hated it. Book 11 was the best one since 3 or 4 though so it’s all uphill from there
