Calling all long femur friends!! (Short femurs, I’ll get a video for you soon!) On the right are (dramatized) versions of squats that I see MORE OFTEN THAN I’D LIKE TO ADMIT😅 As a coach who works with hundreds of people a week, I see so many long femur friends trying to replicate squats from a short femur friend and it usually results in one of the two ❌ examples I’ve provided. The top ❌ is when long femur squatters are trying to get depth BUT are limited by one or a more of the following: 1. range of motion in their ankles, spine, shoulders, and/or lats which causes a forward lean to compensate. 2. fear of the knees going over their toes. Unfortunately, this statement must have been made up by a short femur individual… 3. they want to keep a more narrow stance like their short femur friends but that doesn’t always work with long femurs (unless ROM is really advanced) Or 4. They’re trying to sit BACK rather than Squat DOWN. We already squat so far back because of the femur length. Think back AND down. The second ❌ is when long femur squatters: 1. Don’t want to lean forward since their short femur friends don’t have to so they are trying to stay upright. This results in the tucking of the tailbone. The knees, neck, and low back take the load, and hips don’t engage. 2. Don’t want to Squat down AND back because they lose their balance from trying not to lean forward 3. Anatomically, they don’t remember how to squat naturally due to shoe/joint/mobility limitations over time As a long femur squatter you will need to accept the fact that:  ✅your hinge will be much greater, BUT  👍🏼 that’s different than bending forward!! ✅ you will naturally sit further back 👍🏼but that means your knees may go over your toes to balance load! ✅your stance may have to be wider 👍🏼but that will allow for better (and safer) depth! Your anatomy makes your movements unique! Don’t try to replicate people who aren’t anatomically similar!  Questions? Feel free to ask away!
