The reason he went to a planet with a race that doesn't live very long is so he wouldn't get attached again. He knew he loved earth to much, And for a viltrumite, love is a weakness that can be exploited. Mark and Debbie ment the world to him, and he ended up betraying his race for them. He's a villain, but he isn't the monster he claimed to be. The unfeeling threat Viltrume raised him to be, Earth changed him permanently, and he hates that fact.

Also fun fact during the part after him and mark defeated the giant squid, and started their brawl, when Nolan punches mark into Chicago your able to see how he’s thinking “why am I doing this?” as it’s able to be seen as he closed his eyes and looked down knowing he had to do it for viltrum
