This was filmed for David Attenboroughs ‘Ocean’, showing the destructive nature of bottom trawling - an industrial, brutal fishing practice that leaves nothing left in its path. Weighted and enormous nets are literally dragged across the sea floor, obliterating marine ecosystems, killing untargeted species, and leaving a barren wasteland behind. There’s been little footage of the reality of trawlers - until now. This clip allows us to reflect on the relationship humans have with the sea. It is the most important part of our world. But we have taken it for granted.
