@home_atoldlandsdrive: 2 years since we reserved our shared ownership 3 bedroom semi detached house in a Surrey village. We recently got a mortgage renewal quote as our 2 year deal is coming to an end. Not only are we about to reduce our rate by at least 1% but our mortgage provider advised our home using a basic valuation is now worth at least £590k 🤩 Now if this house was to go open market and be valued by an estate agent, who knows what it could be…I’m pretty happy with our return in 2 years tbh! So do we have regrets? Not at all, I mean I wish we could have bought a bigger share at the start or when renewing this time but the timing just isn’t it right. In another 2 years…for sure! Our only other regret is not overpaying enough on the mortgage! Lesson learnt, the money we will be saving monthly from a reduced rate will be put into an overpayment fund along with savings each month, it just makes sense to us to pay off as much as we can. The first 6 months were tough, I got made redundant and struggled to find work and there’s been plenty of health issues thrown in. We’ve worked hard making this house into a home, all on a budget but also with the help of some amazing collabs with brands and my brother.
