@bratbustersparenting: Example of consequences for a 3-year-old? There's always two consequences for the kids with my calm leadership approach. The first one is a positive action. You get them to do something. The second one is a negative deprivation if they won't do the first, so you take something away. Positive actions could look like cleaning a window sill, cleaning out the bathroom sink, helping put the dishes away, helping dry the dishes. Something little; oftentimes it's helping you do something. The negative deprivation consequence might be 24 hour media blackout, take away their favorite toy that they play with every single day for 24 hours.Something like that. Keep in mind there is no perfect consequence. There's just the perfect follow through from you, you just follow through. You need to be 100% consistent. Not sure where to start in your calm leadership journey? Check out my BratBusters Behaviour Board (Plus Toddler Basics) that I send to my parenting newsletter, linked in my bio. I don’t agree with the unrelated consequences. That just seems manipulative and teaches them not to trust you. It seems like the imbalance and power causes people to take away things that are gifts, which should not be taken away, for instance, would it be OK if you didn’t do what your husband Told you to do and he took away your laptop that he bought you or your car?

My LO loves to clean so the only thing that works with her is that I will take something away.I usually catch her in the act and tell her if you choose to this then this will be taken away.

What do you do if the first time they needed the negative consequence, and then they repeat the behavior later in the day after you’ve already started the media blackout? Take a different toy? Do you lay out what the next negative deprivation when you tell them the positive consequence after they’ve repeated the behavior?

What happens if you have triplets? It’s difficult to teach one consequence without involving the other two who haven’t made the issue

Taking things away don’t phase him anymore. I am at a loss. A reward doesn’t work either. 😩😭

All of your examples of positive action were cleaning... If we make cleaning a punishment won't that discourage cleaning on their own and potentially make them think of it as a punishment as they get older and have to clean to take care of themselves?

What about “bad” behavior at daycare? My 3 year old is hitting and pushing her friends. What can we do at home about this?
