Get a chair and a doorway chin up bar and work on controlling yourself from the top of a pull up to fall as slowly as possible. Set an alarm to go do 1 set of 5 every hour. No more. You'll be surprised.

I learned to do them by having a little lower of a bar and a step ladder. you stand on the step ladder and put yourself at the position on the bar you'd be in for the full lift, then lower yourself down best you can. Basically working the muscles up over time in reverse. did thwr and the gym for a few months and then could do them solo like a champ
