Removing the Strut Assembly & Replacing the Shock (not applicable with torsion bar front suspension) We took the Colorado on a maiden camping trip up the northern coast of California. I have never experienced shock fade before*, until now. In fact, it was so severe that I thought I lost a sway bar end link or something. We had stopped for dinner in Fort Bragg. Then proceeded to drive to Loleta. Prior to that, we had hit lots of twisty roads prior to Fort Bragg driving up Hwy 1. However, the drive after Fort Bragg is when the front shocks could no longer take it, since the roads are very twisty up there. About 50 minutes later, all of a sudden, my tires were coming into contact with the wheel wells when I was making turns and the side-to-side oscillations after the turns (can see in the video). I pulled over and looked underneath, but did not see anything obvious. So, I proceeded driving slower. When the trip was over and back home, I crawled underneath the truck to see what was going on. Everything was in tack. Putting side to side motion by pushing on the camper top, did not cause any unusual movements in the end links or sway bar brackets; however, the movement was more than when I just installed the rear sway bar. I even disconnected the rear sway bar end link to feel the firmness of the bar, it was fine. Hence these original front shocks with only 20K miles had to go. Who would think that one camping trip would degrade the front shocks! Then again, adding 1300lbs to the back of a truck (i.e. truck camper) probably did not help! *I have always replaced shocks with performance shocks such as KYB MonoMax, Gas-Adjust and even Edlebrock IAS. This is my first time using Bilstein shocks. I have also driven these exact same twisty roads before with both my previous 1967 Cutlass convertible and 1985 Sunrader Motorhome (Toyota based) with no issues at all. #chevycolorado #gmccanyon #strutreplacement #strut #Bilstein #bilsteinshocks #bilsteinperformance #coiloversuspension #coilovers #coilover #CarRepair #TikTokAutoCampaign #fyp
