Growing up, I was bullied because I was black and couldn't speak English, and was in foster care with no one to share my day with. I was just trying to survive. I remember feeling so unwanted by the world, even praying to go back to the refugee camp because, there, I felt safer. Fast forward to today, and I find myself reporting that my son is being bullied. I’m grateful that my son can express his feelings to me. When he casually mentioned what happened, saying, “Yeah, I got it back,” (his water bottle and ID)he didn’t even see it as bullying. But for me, it triggered a flashback. Moms, teach your children to be kind because some of us are raising kind kids who don’t even realize they’re being bullied. Anyway, that’s my TED talk for today.
