m4 chips is slower than a i9 14900 laptop cpu and that isn't even the current Intel generation. as a Linux user i would stay with Intel or amd. m4 is only more power efficient but that is only useful if you are not near an outlet a lot.

Have you tried ghostty? Just recently switched from alacritty to ghostty and I’m also using zellij as terminal multiplexer.

the only downside is the need for tmux for a robust terminal experience, otherwise Ghostty is the best option for rust base + gpu acceleration terminals...

Try out iTerm2, I was on alacrity for a long time but I switched because term does everything alacritty can do and so much more out the box. Things that would be a pain to config in alacritty are just a toggle on iTerm.
