@marissadaily_: We uncovered a hidden gem just 90 minutes from D.C., and it’s full of stories, flavor, and unforgettable views.🙌🏽 #VisitCulpeperPartner Culpeper, Virginia surprised us in the best way. Beyond the postcard-perfect streets are powerful stories - from women-owned shops to deep-rooted Black and immigrant history. All being highlighted as part of the town’s Culpeper Uncovered campaign. We stayed at Virginia Bison Company in a dreamy A-frame cabin…with bison grazing right outside the window 🦬 Baby goats, chickens, and the sweetest farm dogs made it feel like a fairytale farm stay. Downtown? Full of charm and legacy. We took the Right the Record walking tour and learned about the Black businesses that once thrived in those same storefronts. La Bee Da Loca blew us away - not just with local honey and beeswax everything (and a live beehive upstairs!), but with the history in a space that once held a Black-owned barbershop We also loved popping into Botanical Dwellings and Le Monkey House - two women-owned shops that make Culpeper feel like home the second you step inside. 🛍️ We explored murals celebrating culture and community, and wrapped our day with a perfect steak at Piedmont Steakhouse 🥩 and sips at Old House Vineyards - Virginia’s first winery/brewery/distillery trifecta. Yes, we tried them all. 🍷🍺🥃 Before heading home, we made one last stop at Bees & Trees Farm, a family-run treasure full of animals, local honey, and that peaceful countryside energy. 🐝🐐 Culpeper isn’t just cute. It’s meaningful. It’s layered. And it’s 100% worth the weekend trip. They definitely did this to fool tourists. The town is racist, has a very racist history, and had a humongous trump sign at the city center for monthssss back around election time. The longstanding sheriff was just pardoned by trump. Wonder why.

As someone who has live here his whole life and who is serving as the NAACP Culpeper President, we’ve made great strides towards honoring Black history here

beautiful yes, but still, the history of why there r so few Black owned businesses NOW is what's wrong with this country as a whole, pretty signs & pretty scenery doesn't erase the truth it only covers a festering wound.

I’m from Culpeper, VA and most people there from both sides of the fence are related. Very diverse community, I loved growing up there and yes it has changed since a lot of northerners have moved there. Should have kept it a secret 🤫

My daughter settled in Culpeper & my husband & I fell in love with Downtown. There are racists & homophobes, yes, but efforts like this & the growing PRIDE Festival is a slap in the face to those people. BE THE CHANGE WE DESERVE!!

I grew up in Culpeper and remember all the black own businesses from Dr.E. Barber office the only black Dr to Sarah P Young restaurant to Howard Jones taxi service who my mom drove for even black own laundromat. The bus station and liquor store was on that part of town because it was black and near the train tracks now its been gentrified and I don't think anything is black owned. Thank you to the young lady for recognizing Culpeper my hometown.
