I saw him talk on good morning news, and he had part of the book written when he brought it to the publishers. I’m so happy for him but frustrated for everyone who’s been fighting for their place in publishing and have to keep fighting.

It’s marketability ☹️doesn’t matter if the books are good—it only matters that they sell. And an attractive guy who got BookTok’s attention is a better gamble than those of us who’ve been in the trenches 😣 But as we saw with Silver Elite and Fourth Wing, publishers can invest millions to push books in front of us to make them bestsellers. They just pick and choose and it’s so frustrating—very “rules for thee but not for meeee”

I haven’t looked into his story much, but I’m guessing it’s partly because he has a platform. Secondly, I’ve heard of authors who get an agent based on an idea, the agent pitches the idea, and the author gets a deal.

I’m not mad at the publishing house. They are here to make money and they knew exactly how to twist the market… I’m mad that the publishing house saw booktok and what we have become here. I’m mad at booktok.
