@autism.dadcast: Trying to juggle school and medical appointments shouldn’t feel like a military operation... but for SEND parents, it often does. One dad vents about the chaos of mid-day appointments, how it messes with his child’s routine, and questions whether the system even helps. 💬 “It’s a bloody nightmare. You're constantly thinking, ‘If we do this, then what’s the knock-on effect tomorrow?’” This bit will hit home for so many of us — the invisible planning we’re forced to do just to make it through a single day. #autismdad #SENDparenting #neurodiversity #schoolstruggles #autismreality
And schools say you should be making the appointments outside of school. But all the clinics and dentists only run in school hours. It’s ridiculous.

the WORSE thing is that it goes against their attendance. my daughter had therapy every 2 weeks so her attendance took a hit and i got warning letters....for a medical reason!!

Lots of people in these comments who can't comprehend autism and the impact of something out of routine for them

The worlds evolving and the government are in denial. All the systems need to shape up and fit the current world. I don’t understand why it’s so hard

Medical professionals need training to support them to become proficient in seeing people with SEN they also need funding to provide resources to support understanding and communication. It is failing so many people 😞

having a child with type 1 diabetes and potentially autism, any appt which isn't very early or after school is a nightmare for us. we have an issue around lunchtime to with her diabetes which adds the complications

My biggest issue is the professionals having no understanding of autism. Even the Dieticians and Dentists. My son has ARFID, I am sick of them telling me what he needs to eat. I know what he needs. But he won’t eat it. Why don’t they listen! Wasting so much NHS time arguing about the same things. Must cost them a fortune!

My child is the same, if she has an appointment I can’t take her back as it messes her routine and causes issues, she goes back in the next day fine as it’s like a “reset”
