@sensorystoriesbynicole: Autistic people tend to think in complexities... and here's why (according to research #autisticadult #latediagnosedautistic #autismawareness #autistictiktok
Anytime I have an idea, I run through every single possible outcome and all the work involved, and end up talking myself out of it because it's just too much.

also, synaptic pruning is performed by the immune system which can explain why there are so many autoimmune related comorbidities with autism

I don’t feel that we make things more complex, rather we’re aware and recognize the complexity

And this is why when we are asked “what do 7 and 9 have in common?” When being assessed EVERY SINGLE ANSWER WE GIVE MIGHT BE DIFFERENT BUT NONE OF US SAY “they are both numbers” 😂🙈

More synapses = Better is a wrong assumption.

Is this why I get frustrated when someone asks what I’m doing while I’m in the middle of doing it? Suddenly I have to stop and verbalize this thing I’m doing, I get this moment of confusion & it throws me off!

It’s like thinking in fractals vs a more linear process. It’s hard to explain the connections to people.

In my 30’s I read about someone drinking cough medicine to dull their brain down and I went “huh, I wonder if that works. I didn’t DO it, but the fact that I wondered if I *should* is validated when I hear the research.

We keep our synapses because our brains "use or lose" the pathways. Autistic brains at a default take in a lot more info than allistic brains, which by default means were using more pathways and keeping more synapses! 🤗🥰

My kids constantly ask me why I can't give a simple answer. I consistently remind them that there are no simple answers.

Oh yeah I over complicate soooo much and I have to ask specifics of things that might seem straightforward but Iv got multiple voices of myself in my head jumping to every posibility that it gives me task paralysis because I dont feel like I have enough information.

The way I see it is that there are multiple takes that can be backed up with valid reasoning. But the collective tends to hone in on one take and I struggle to decipher why one reasoning wins over others despite others being as valid

This sounds so similar to ADHD and the theory of actually having too many dopamine receptors. I’ll take me as an example — without stimulants, my mind overthinks and is dopamine-seeking with impulsivity, hyperactivity just yapping loud in excess; whereas on medication, my mind is quiet, calm, satisfied, have shorter and concise communication with others

I also find that, when presented with a question, I am more likely to think out several steps ahead of a basic answer so that I don't create future problems for myself.

could this be a part of why many of us seem extra prone to rely on grass or alcohol to feel more "normal" (chemical masking?) to participate in outings? it either slows down our V24 engines or shuts down half the neurons?

Yes this is a daily struggle. I do not know how people form opinions on such little information/ true data. Then they speak with so much confidence it’s like HUH?! I think most people rely on the mainstream narrative but that’s always boring & mostly incorrect

I really don't even know why but I broke down crying watching this... I really don't understand how other people don't see all the complexity. and how they could not care... I mean when I explain it to them they're capable of understanding... they can even agree that I'm right... they just don't care...

This makes sense. When someone says something, my mind comes up with several possibilities at once about what it might mean. Then I ask questions to eliminate all the incorrect ones. That's why the pruning thing makes sense...
