I hate that these programs ended at a certain grade or age. It’s hard enough getting teenagers or preteens to read as well. There should be programs for those age groups too

Barnes and Noble employee here. Our summer reading journal sheets list the possible free books divided by grade level but if your kid is above or below their grade level for reading you can get any of the books on the list. The grade levels shown are just so there's a rough idea of what level the book is written at.

When I register my boys for the summer reading program, I register myself because I'm a reader too. I usually have a chance of a $100 gift certificate or new Kindle.

I want the Barnes and Noble one for me! but honestly they probably don't get to pick the book. it's probably one none of the kids even read and they just want to get rid of inventory

We did the 1,000 book before kindergarten challenge at our local library. They got several things when they hit milestones, like 200 books they got playdough, 400 books they got a Pinwheel. Then when she reached 1,000 she got a free book and shirt.
