It's about being able to have a choice. You should be able to go into a career, you should be able to be a housewife, you should be able to be in-between even. But being a housewife is barely an available choice for most because of the economy.

My mother was a 50s person in her 20s she said it was a waste land for women but she also said it was very tough on the men post war and they had to work and financially look after the family, if they lost a job it was devastating because the female was unable to contribute

There were already a lot of kitchen conveniences; frozen vegetables, canned sauces, instant puddings, cake & brownie mixes. Anyway, lobotomy was done on ~50,000 US & Canadian women in the 50s
