People forget that at the time Tord originally left, everyone in that group was out for each other’s throats every single episode. They weren’t friends as much as they were codependent roommates. Matt created an entire zombie army and turned on them multiple times to be its leader just because he was bored and a little pissy at Edd, Tom shot missiles at Edd and Matt during a rap battle during Christmas, and both Edd and Tord fought with everyone for any reason they could think of, and that was considered completely normal. After Tord left, everyone slowly mellowed out. It was Edd, Matt, and Tom changed, not Tord; that’s why he seemed so out of place in Legacy because he didn’t experience the subtle shift in tone that the rest of the gang did.

I really like what tomee bear said about this, Tord’s betrayal wasn’t much different from tom taking over Christmas/ Matt attacking them as a zombie. Tord left when things like that were normal in the group, then Edd, tom, and Matt stopped like trying to kill each other regularly and when Tord returned he just didn’t get the memo.

iirc tom used tord as a metaphor for Edd's cancer, and it always made me feel weird because like. he's still based on a real person? and it feels unfair (especially knowing they didn't like each other that much irl either)

PERSONAL THOUGHTS TIME I like to think that he was just truly manic at the time mainly bc his eyes are white the whole time. I genuinely don't think he processed what he was doing/did until he was on the hill. That's why he just sat there for so long staring at the boys leaving AND ALSO he had no reason to blow up the neighbors house. he felt 'provoked' by tom and that's why he blew up theirs (still insane but at least there's an obvious explanation for that). But the neighbors??? that was a pure power trip right there He was just in an insane manic episode and I don't know how much he would even remember of the incident 😭

My gf and I had a headcanon that he was forced to betray his friends by an abusive army father who had learned his son had left important technology in some stranger's house. We both believe he only acted out like that to intentionally push his friends away so that he wouldn't have to see them get hurt (yes it's a huge stretch but sabotaging behavior can commonly be an aftermath of abuse, and it's also a twisted sort of headcanon to bring us comfort over the situation)
