I was raised in a Council House. It was lovely. I’m not sure when we decided social housing is somehow shameful?

I don’t understand why as council house owners we should be expected to not take pride in our homes. I don’t drink I don’t smoke I’m a single mum who works as a full time nurse, I’m not scrounging off anyone but the reality is if I lived in private rent I’d be absolutely broke. I save up I make my house a home that’s doesn’t mean I shouldnt live in it and someone deserves it more than me

I get it alot because apparently I got my flat for free and I'm on benefits so I'm also a scrounger. What they don't realise is I got this flat after fleeing for my lufe from my abusive brother and I'm disabled and currently unable to work, my flat is clean, tidy and I do pay for it. Just because I get help bc I can't work doesn't make me a scrounger either

I grew up in a council house, it had an ENORMOUS garden overlooking horse fields and the countryside. My mum turned it from a run down shell with a scrap heap in the garden to a gorgeous home. Council houses and social housing are lifesavers. My mum would have would homeless with 2 young kids without it. social housing isn't shameful, it's a lifeline

I can't understand all this snobbery about council houses, growing up everyone I knew lived in council estates, all worked hard and were decent. doesn't matter where you live or what you own, we're all human! in the end you can't take your house with you.

this annoys me so much, my council house was literally falling apart not long after I moved in, plaster falling from ceilings and walls, I had to get the M.P involved to get it sorted as they wanted to skim over blown plaster, it's not just social media who don't care it's some councils themselves! I'm struggling to get them to fix my path that leads to my garden, at the end of the day they are my landlord!
