A secondary reason, prisons are located in red districts, and the prison population counts towards the census and districting. Lower prison populations, make it more difficult to gerrymander.

Can confirm. For profit prisons are paid by the amount of beds, regardless of whether there is a person in it or not. The State prioritizes filling those empty beds because they have to pay either way. On the flip side, the reason is because, according to the contract, the for profit "claims" to save taxpayer money by housing them cheaper. The reality is, they have yet to show that savings.

Wrong. Texas only has ONE private prison. The STATE of Texas has bought them all out. You are right about slave labor as the migrant workers are not crossing the border or ICE is rounding them up. In a nutshell the State of Texas will be benefitting.

Jails are very very much severely overcrowded here in houston lol my baby daddy was just in Harris county and the systems went down and a guy died waiting to be processed and they were so full they took guys down to the basement

Alabama uses its prison labor to work at McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s and Taco Bell. The prisons pay the state 400 million a year to do this. I don’t go to those fast food places.
