There’s a point where wanting someone doesn’t disappear—you just become exhausted from constantly being the person willing to admit it. You still think about them. You still miss them at random times. A part of you probably still hopes that one day everything aligns differently and somehow the two of you find your way back to each other. But you can’t keep putting your life on pause waiting for a possibility. You can’t keep sending the paragraph, checking whether they viewed your story, wondering if they’re thinking about you too, or looking for hidden meaning in every tiny interaction. Eventually, you realize that if something is ever going to happen again, it can’t keep happening because you dragged it back to life. So you stop. Not because you suddenly stopped loving them. Not because you’re trying to manipulate them into chasing you. You’re simply tired of carrying the entire connection by yourself. Now it’s time to put all that energy somewhere else. Into your work. Your friendships. Your goals. Your peace. Into becoming someone whose life continues whether that person returns or not. And maybe that’s the healthiest version of “if it’s meant to be, it’ll be.” It doesn’t mean sitting around believing fate will magically fix everything. It means releasing your grip on an outcome you can’t control. If your paths cross again and both of you have grown enough to build something healthier, you can decide what to do then. And if they don’t, you’ll have spent that time building a life instead of waiting for one. I can still want you without chasing you. I can still love you without asking you to choose me. And I can leave the door unlocked in my heart without spending every night sitting beside it waiting for you to walk through.
