First thing I do when I get there on a no cooling call just check the filter. Check the indoor blower. Check all your registers supply and return then go to the outdoor unit and check everything out there. And they usually end up not needing refrigerant. it was just a filter or cleaning issue.

you need to add gas to verify if low or has a restriction no way around it.

I am genuinely curious as to why techs always assume freezing line means low Freon. I’ve never seen a frozen line in low Freon actually. That’s usually poor airflow and not enough heat being absorbed but plenty rejected. But idk I’m only a 3rd year 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hi, how are you doing? Hope you can answer this question for me. I don't wanna buy expensive gauge. I just wanna buy a pretty good one. My system is. R-410 i'm just using it from my house every once in a while. Do you know a good gauge on your website or Amazon that I can buy to put the gas inside?

Airflow first… Refrigerant second and before you even get to filling it up with any refrigerant you check metering devices, coils for coil leaks, temperatures of the lines including around the reversing valve if it’s a HP or Filter driers… etc etc etc do your checks and make your own procedures before filling a system.

Sounds like a training problem. Are we not training newbies? Should be a check list to walk thru. I get it, we are losing a lot of institutional knowledge as the experienced age out. Might be a great time for an app that can help diagnose and give them that checklist.

Never add charge without checking superheat AND subcool.

We should be teaching young technicians, simple checks, like I just said to help them along instead of getting overly technical

It’s not that hard. If the suction line from a warm start is cold you have probably have an airflow problem. If the suction line is warm and the pressure is low you have a charge problem. Low charge problem.
