@reasonmagazine: The Brits and French spent a combined $10 billion in inflation-adjusted dollars to develop the Concorde, which promised a supersonic 1,350 mph flight from New York to London in under three hours. But the supersonic XB-1 “Baby Boom” is funded by investor and venture capital money—not yours. Which is why they had a real incentive to make it work. #travel #airplane #engineering #airtravel #traveltiktok #traveltok #plane #planes

You make it sound like the Concord didn’t make a net profit. The reason why the Concord wasn’t popular is because supersonic aircraft are loud and because of that they weren’t aloud to fly over land. What’s going to make this aircraft different?

That’s not what the French (and British) thought at all. They know it was likely only going to be used by businesses and the wealthy. It’s in the first paragraph of the JV between the two nations to build Concorde.

The concord targeted people working in corporate and who needed to get to meeting quick without the long flight that’s why the flight is between to business capitals and not to the Bahamas or some holiday destination

You all forget about the concord eclipse flight the longest flight in an eclipse in history and there probably won’t be a chance to repeat it for like 100 years due to orbital mechanics

like there would even be a chance for these companies if the concord hadn't existed 🙄 and wow its easier to achieve this technology decades later, when avionics have advanced so much, they must be genius

Concorde flew between Paris and New York too. Also, Air France flew it to Rio de Janeiro via Dakar. It went to Hong Kong too. Both British and French spend money because Sud Aviation (French) and BAC (UK) was state-owned companies. About the ticket price, it was almost 10,000 in inflation adjusted euros from Paris or London to New York. That exactly the current average price of a ticket in 1st class with Air France on this same route but in subsonic speed (regular). So the Boom ticket will be only half the Concorde price.

How there is 130 companies that want to buy it when it can only flight above the wall of sound when over a sea? There are not so much "over the sea" route.

For 5k I could book United Polaris round trip from Europe to USA. Would rather travel in comfort than get there three hours quicker.

that craziness at first we used to travel across the Atlantic in. I don’t know half a year six months, but then we developed ocean liners, which took us across the Atlantic and round a week for most then and then now not now we got the Concorde, which would take us across the Atlantic in three hours it’s crazy😁
