I'm not Malay or Muslim, but I took Malay in primary and secondary school waay back. From Sec 1 to 4, I had the same Malay cikgu. Over the years, he would often sidetrack into religion during class, and one thing he repeated a lot was that money and material things aren’t important. What matters is being a good Muslim because the real reward is in heaven. I’m not sure if this mindset is common or just unique to him, but if it is widespread, I can see how it might influence how some people approach money, ambition, or career goals. Not saying religion is the cause, but how it's framed, especially in school, can have a real impact on long-term attitudes towards money and material success.

Please go deeper with this topic. As a malay I want to know what do the Chinese do differently. Besides aiming for As, good schools and good jobs, what did their parents do to put them in a better financial standing?

most of my Malay ex-classmates were too busy fighting, disturbing girls and getting into trouble.. whilst the Chinese are busy studying.. we do have a few good Malay classmates but they were ostracized by the bad ones ..

As a neutral, the Malays many of whom Muslims don’t strive for worldly desires. Because their belief is solely focused on the afterlife. There’s no wrong in that.

can we be gently reminded of colonisation and generational wealth. what was done to HINDER generational wealth of formerly LAND-OWNING Malays before their property was seized by the govt for nation-building. were these individuals also given continued dividends for the land? they were not allowed to choose between keeping or selling that land. were they financially literate to grow the initial principal amount? note, this was the 60s-70s.

Not true! Many malays own landed properties. There are now many Malay own cafes, restaurants not just Nasi Lemak stalls ok! Malays are rich! Just that they kept a low profile. It may appear alot of Chinese own landed properties, but need to compare proportionately. The proportion of 23% Malays in landed is high.

Just to correct you, working hard alone doesn't earn you a landed property. Taufik is staying in private property because he's hardworking and TALENTED.
