I like how the quest giver imposes himself to the players.. after a few games you learn that players will always ignore the quest giver if he's not the one engaging the conversation

I subscribe to the "In Media Res" philosophy. My session 1 usually begins like "You were all at the tavern sheltering from the raging storm when a wounded man burst in. His cart was attacked on the road and hooded men captured his son. He's offered a reward to any who would rescue him, and you all volunteered. Introduce yourselves as you follow their tracks through the forest."

Been loving the new v veteran series as well as most of your other content could you do this series for different kinds of setting, I just ran my party through a maze of sewers and it kinda felt like slogging through walking around with me describing the area until they ran into a fight.

Best start I ever did - scene starts with a burning warehouse in a busy town. All the adventurers are passing by / nearby, and one by one they all respond to help, as dozens of townsfolk try to put the fire out. One of the girls in the group was playing a character her and I had pre-arranged to die in this scene, only she knew this. They all fight through the blaze, trying to rescue people, vwarehouse workers dying around them, some trapped, others burning alive, and just as they, injured and burned, drag the last living person out, a beam falls from the ceiling and kills this character. As they're tending to her last moments, they hear a scream and pop, she switches to this character which is the sister of the dead woman she played at the start. This then leads into a quest of intrigue as to how the fire started, who was behind it, and the adventure begins. They all absolutely loved it. of course, I'd have been stuffed if they'd just ignored the fire. 🤣🤣

I dislike the robed figure trope, people smoking in public has in only recent times been taboo, so a man cloaked and smoking in a corner would be normal, there would prolly be a bunch of guys sitting alone and smoking
