I was raised orthodox, similar to catholic and I disagree with the icons and statues. I told thr priest the commandment says to not make any graven image. the priest gave me a silly answer.

this is easy, do you respect your mother? ✔️do you respect your friend's mother? ✔️what makes you not respectful to your Lord's mother? if your friend is a very influential person, and you ask for his favor, but because he is very busy he cannot get back to you, while you also knew well his mother and his mother is very influential to him, wouldn't you want to ask for her help to talk to your friend (her son)? you don't need to look into the bible to understand this.

Except 1) this entire idea of them being idols is false because the statues themselves aren’t worshipped or held above God (ask any catholic if Mary is above God they’ll say no) 2) your definition would make any picture of family you have an idol because it’s a graven image 3) humans sin- that doesn’t mean the RC church doesn’t have apostolic succession.

I’ve never understood why people pray to anyone except directly to God. Confessing your sins to a pope or praying to various people in the Bible versus going to God always makes me wonder if they have a true relationship with Jesus.

so if a soldier kneels down for a fallen soldier who was his friend that passed during war. Does that mean he was worshipping him or honoring him? because I believe he was honoring what he did for their country. so no we kneel to honor mary not worship.

1. God used sinners as prophets and kings (yes even Popes), but their sin doesn't invalidate their office. 2. Misunderstood the term of graven image (as the Israelites built holy images, in the Tabernacle not graven). 3. There are can be exceptions for Priests in the Latin Rite (and Eastern Rites allow marriage for priests).

Sorry man, you gotta brush up on your theology. We ask these saints to intercede for us, just like how on earth we ask our friends to intercede for us when we need prayers. The Catholic Church is the church that Jesus Christ established here through Peter the first Pope. God bless you.

It's true that there are traditions. I'm even having a hard time to digest and accept it. But one thing is for sure, protestants never faught and died to defend the christian faith against muslim invasions. No one can name a protestant knight who defended the faith against muslims.

Baptist here. What I heard from my Catholic friends is that the church consists of all of those who believe in Christ, both living and those who have since passed. As Paul said in 2 Corinthians, to be absent of the body and present with the Lord. So the church fathers and the apostles are still within the church. And If that’s the case, we can ask them to also pray for us as we pray to God. The objection my friend made to me was was that if I only pray directly to God, do I not ask my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, or even my pastor, to also pray for me? Although I still disagree with some other parts of Catholicism, I do understand where this point is coming from and it makes sense to me if this is the way it’s going about.

I’m a Christian no denomination. I wouldn’t even call myself a Christian I’d just say I’m a man of God who follows Jesus to make it more known who God is. No denomination no religion no nothing. Just Jesus.
