I have a theory that during the pan we had an influx of couples who got to work and come home and go to the gym and get nail appointments are suddenly forced to be around eachother so much they’re finding out they don’t really know them. We are the five people we are around the most so what happens when you’re stuck with less than 5 people for nearly two years depending upon location and restrictions. My work offered psych counseling “bonus” when I became an essential worker. I called and they were bombarded by April. My theory is psych mediators and therapist strategies had a reverb and the term narcissist spiked. I’m curious as to when the term narcissist search spiked because I haven’t heard this word so much in the last decade.. I’m scared.

A true narcissist is actually very uncommon. People misuse that word a lot

One more comment about the spike in this term via Google: “Mid-2008: Google searches for "narcissism" started to see a steady, consistent increase. Mid-2010s: The rise of social media platforms encouraged discussions and sharing of content about narcissistic behaviors, leading to greater search volume for related terms. 2016: A significant spike in searches for "narcissism" and related topics occurred after Donald Trump's first election. Late 2010s to present: The term became more widespread in popular culture, often used casually to describe toxic or selfish behaviors. This was accompanied by trending searches for related terms like "narcissistic abuse". Recent years: Searches for "narcissist" have continued to grow, with a steady increase over the last three years”

Honestly, I think almost everyone these days has narcissistic tendencies. It’s just the world we live in. But not everyone is a full blown narcissist. It’s just a buzzword & it’s currently the thing to say when you want to make someone out to be a bad person. 🤷🏼‍♀️

They may not be a narcissist but they are probably called a narcissist because they used tools narcissists use to manipulate. The love bomb and gaslight and truly see no reason for self reflection when they are fight but just repeat the cycle over and over again. I’d say it’s more about the tactics used

I’ve noticed that when people blame their partner or ex partner for being a narcissist they’re usually one

people are quick to use that word, but yes one can have narcissist traits without having the disorder. and it's not just about being obsessed about their own image/appearance. it's a low self esteem thing and then doing everything to protect yourself against perceived or real threat to your ego.
