Its called Jaffa like Yaffa, and it has a colonial background. Jaffa cakes were firstly made in the 1900s when Britain colonised Palestine and Jaffa was a city in Palestine that was known for its oranges which is why these orange cakes are called Jaffa cake (Yaffa cake)

Just used my Google fu. Mcvities got taken to court about it by customs and excise. So they baked a large Jaffa cake to prove it really is a cake.

I think this was discussed in some court or legal situation. It was deeemed a cake. Quite simply. A cake hardens when cut and left for air to get to it. A biscuit softens. If u cut a jaffa and leave out, it hardens…cake
