@tranquilitybyhehe: Dad Daze is the one-stop-shop to preparing your partner for everything they need to be your best advocate in labor! • Free to lifetime members of The Birth Lounge! • Clearly being in active labor is important for this scenario. Otherwise, it’s possible that the hospital may not admit you without a cervical exam. Why? Because they don’t want to give you a bed/room if you’re going to be in there for ages. The hospital is a profit driven system and prioritizes bed turnover so that profits can stay up. If you’re not in active labor and there are limited number of beds available (or something like a snow storm or full moon has caused an influx of births to occur), they’ll have a preference to reserve those rooms for someone who ‘really needs it.’ • In 2020 (remember the chaos), I attended a labor at a major Boston hospital where they attempted to coerce my client by telling her that she could either consent to a cervical check or consent to an epidural in order to get a labor & delivery room. We had intentionally arrived when contractions were 4 minutes apart and coming every 3-4 minutes. In the 52 minutes they spent fighting her, they could have used that time as an opportunity to move her to an appropriate delivery room and have a doctor in there. We ended up having a baby in triage without a doctor present bc they wouldn’t listen to her request to move to a L&D room without a cervical check. • As if that wasn’t bad enough, instead of apologizing for not listening and honoring her, they complained about the paperwork that was going to have to be done for this “incident”. I assured them I was happy to be a witness for anything they needed. For some reason, they never took me up on that offer. The family did report this to the hospital patient advocacy center and to the state medical board to which they never heard back from either. • Learn how you and your partner can advocate for the birth you want regardless of the twists and turns (or hospital policies) pop up day of! • • • • #hospitalbirth #laboranddelivery #birthtips #childbirtheducation #birthplan #childbirthpreparation #birthprep #birthpartner #birthsupport

Do you think it’s reasonable to have a cervical exam before pushing starts?
