@barbra_leni: Namugongo Martyrs Shrine is a historical and religious site in Uganda, dedicated to the memory of 22 young Christian converts who were executed on June 3, 1886, under the orders of Kabaka Mwanga II. The executions were part of a larger persecution of Christians who were seen as a threat to traditional authority at the time. The martyrs, both Catholic and Anglican, were killed for refusing to renounce their faith. Namugongo became the site where many of them were burned alive, and it is now recognized as a national pilgrimage destination. Every year, especially on Martyrs Day, people from across Uganda and other countries gather here to commemorate their sacrifice. The site includes both the Catholic and Anglican shrines, as well as a museum that documents the events leading to the executions.
