“Are you annoyed hybrid training is trendy”? I’m asked some variation of this all the time. And sure, while it could be annoying others are moving into a space I’ve been in myself for years as a coach or “athlete” (theoretically making more competition for my business) — I refrain from feeling that way about it. Why? Because in a land of the cortisol boogeyman and cardio is making you fat and lifting makes you bulky and buckets on buckets of misinformation in this space THIS TREND IS A NET POSITIVE! Sure, people are eager to jump on any bandwagon but what I see here is not just a trend. But a spilling of athletics and strength and conditioning into the gen pop fitness space. Regular people aren’t JUST milling away in the gym to be smaller or bored. They’re training to be faster, stronger, more powerful. All things that are VITAL to both yes performance and health. Hybrid is for everyone! And we should all be doing a little bit of lifting AND cardio in our training. Yes, “everyone’s doing it” and “it’s not revolutionary”. But for so many people that weren’t athletes like me or maybe you — or grew up only on high cardio and extreme diets — or only drinking the cardio kills your gains power lifting koolaid — IT IS! Long live the one health and fitness trend that isn’t actually filled to the brim with misinformation and scare tactics! Long live concurrent athletic hybrid functional multi directional multi component fitness for all! Oh also — it’s the best dang thing we can do for our metabolic health and aging. More weights! More cardio! More hybrid for all! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
