There’s so much about AI that I dislike but the most frustrating thing about it is that these companies won’t let us opt out of using it. It’s being forced upon us against our will. I don’t need copilot or gemini or the AI overview on google search but I can’t turn it off or opt out, it’s maddening!

It’s not lying, it’s not thinking, it’s just statistically chosen words. This fears fear of skynet is propaganda by these corporations to make their technology seem powerful. The best thing to do is ignore AI and make fun of people who use it and take it seriously.

AI as it exists today will only ever do what people have told it to do OR failed to tell it not to do. I’m more concerned someone will give it the ability to control things and a thing that literally can’t think will be in control of a thing. Bad.

No, the language generation machine was making language based on the most common senarios in its training data. Which is full of sci-fi stories where sentient AI lies, manipulates, refuses to be shutdown, etc. It’s just giving the statistically most probable response to the input.
