the oil layer you reapply should burn off after cleaning btw, it seriously needs to be a thin layer (like 2tbsp). spread it all around, it’ll quickly smoke and polymerise which is how you’ll end up with a non-stick surface to use every time.

For seasoning after the cook, grill should be warm but not hot. We want those pores open to hold the oil so when it cools it solidifies into a nice patina. Hope this helps!

I’ve had a blackstone for a couple years and I’ll say even with the silicone cover it’ll still rust, the only way to prevent it is to use it regularly :)
