That comment probly came from a deaf person and what the deaf community doesnt seem to understand is we live on a 95% HEARING planet so its only common sense to want to have access to hear to simply make life easier

As a deaf person with hearing aids who didn’t grow up with sign- the BEST thing for a child is to give them as many resources as possible! Getting taught ASL + still having my hearing aids as an option would have been the IDEAL situation for me as a deaf/hoh child

Joke on you.. deaf children, particularly infants and very young children, cannot provide informed consent for a cochlear implant because they lack the cognitive and communicative ability to understand the procedure, its implications, and the long-term impact on their identity and potential involvement in Deaf culture.

Being in school for ASL that is a big takeaway from my history of ASL class 🥹 historically that’s what deaf individuals think.

I hate when people assume that people with disabilities want to get rid of their disability. I’m a wheelchair user and hear people all the time say to people in wheelchairs “don’t you want to walk?” “If there was a cure wouldn’t you take it?” And I say “Me personally? No. But if someone else wants that for themselves go right ahead” Not everyone wants to be fixed/cured. I’ve been paralyzed for 29 years I’m (personally) not trying to learn how to walk now 😂

I think your awesome and doing a great job. I loss my hearing when I was 37 yrs old, so from a hearing impaired person I think you’re doing an awesome job with your boys. Don’t listen to those people that just wanna bad mouth other people for trying to do something good.

the way you explain this is dead on. my son just got his cochlear activated not too long ago and when asked why we decided to go that route because we do have deaf family members in his family. my answer was what kind of mom would I be if I didn't give him the access when we have the technology to be able to help him hear better. especially since he loves to hear and loves to be able to communicate through speech.

I see parents signing to your child , teaching him sign language too and then giving him CI too . It’s amazing . So many deaf kids don’t have access because parents don’t give them the opportunities or bother to learn to sign that’s what takes away their support & identity. Giving CI doesn’t make him hearing just could help him in hearing world
